Dr. Mary B Adams
Private General Practitioner

Health is wealth. True wealth is not just material gain but a combination of mental and physical well being together with our talents, inner resources and spirituality that combine to form our intrinsic worth and real prosperity. I believe in a holistic approach of both medical care and lifestyle fitness in helping my patients achieve success. For this reason, I profile my patient’s nutrition and exercise (quantity and quality) as part of their health care.
This is now being facilitated by a link with Chris Rushton, personal trainer, at Rendezvous Leisure club and swimming pool, Skipton. This enables me to refer people with existing medical problems who require increased fitness or rehabilitation as part of their overall health care. In addition , I refer well people who need an exercise programme for health and risk modification.
Alison - Kala Reiki Therapist
As a Reiki Practitioner, I work with the whole person and their energy, not just the presenting symptoms. Completely safe and natural, reiki is
appropriate for any illness, pain or stress. It can help with migraines, anxiety, tiredness, depression, addictions,
weight control, back pain, menopause symptoms and many more.
A single treatment will give immediate relief, but as the effects are cumulative you may wish to undertake a series, to ensure lasting
improvements.
Gentle yet powerful, reiki relieves pain and reduces stress, enabling you to look and feel better. An excellent nights sleep is always reported following a treatment, as well as a lovely sense of well being and relaxation. This allows you to make positive personal changes, bringing renewed health and happiness.
The body’s own healing powers are employed, and so the treatment will continue to affect you after the session is finished, nurturing for days, weeks, and even longer.
You won’t need to keep returning, although you may want to!

Power Plate
What’s good enough for Knightsbridge is good enough for Skipton – Harrods charge £25 per session, you can have a session for £7 in Skipton.
Medically Recommended – A Certified Medical Training Device
The variable speed fine vibrations go all through your body increasing blood flow to all parts without creating any wobble!
Fact: The muscles contract and relax up to 50 times a second. Exercises are enhanced by up to six times
Increased blood flow increases bone mineral density reduces pain and soreness and above all decreases cellulite.
I love using the Power Plate® machine as part of my fitness regime as I can do a really intensive workout in such a short space of time. As a working mother with a hectic work schedule using a Power Plate® machine helps me stay in shape without having to spend hours in the gym.
Claudia Schiffer- Supermodel
The Power Plate® machine has dramatically changed my workout. I know that every muscle in my body is being ignited in ways that you can't do with traditional training. Its uses are limitless. I love this machine!
Courteney Cox Arquette, Actress
- The Power Plate is a variable vibration device that can be used by all ages, lifestyles and physical abilities. It uses the principle of acceleration training to stimulate the body’s natural responses to vibration. It enhances overall performance in sessions as short as 15minutes a day, 3times a week. (From Power Plate Website)
- Doing a programme of different exercises on the plate gives the body a high speed workout making the muscles contract and relax up to 50 times per second. The equivalent to doing an hour long workout in the gym.
- It offers a host of benefits, ranging from immediate improvement in blood circulation, to a variety of other outcomes, such as increased muscle strength and flexibility, increased range of motion, increased bone mineral density, decreased cellulite and reduced pain and soreness. (From Porwe Plate Website)
- ”I love the fact the power plates don’t get you as sweaty as a gym workout as a quick baby wipe to freshen up and you’re ready to go back to the office.” As quoted from a recent beauty magazine.
- Single sessions at Harrods Power Plate studio cost £25, here at the Rendezvous are £7 per session. What is good enough for Harrods is good enough for Skipton.

Charity to benefit from hotel’s ‘£s for a pound’ weight loss scheme
Hotel gym offers to match members’ weight loss with charity donation
A local charity is set to cash in on the ultimate New Year’s resolution of getting fit and losing weight. Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton is offering to match every pound in weight participants lose with a £1 donation to Manorlands Hospice in Keighley. Participants will also donate £1 for every pound in weight they lose too, meaning the more their figure decreases, the larger the charity’s final figure will be.
Rendezvous, run by husband and wife team Karen and Malcolm Weaving, opened its new gym in 2008 which offers a wide range of fitness and free weights equipment, as well as a luxury pool, steam room, sauna and hot tub. The gym also recently became one of the few places to offer the Powerplate, a medical training device used by celebrities such as Claudia Schiffer and Courtney Cox to keep in shape.
The hotel will offer weight loss and gym consultations to all the new participants in this initiative and is also hoping many of its 600 members will sign up to the ‘£1 for pound’ programme to benefit Manorlands, a Sue Ryder hospice which offers palliative care for adults and support for their families.
Karen explains, “We always see membership rise in the New Year as everyone feels they’ve overindulged at Christmas, however we know how hard it is to keep the motivation going. We hope, with our support, the incentive of losing weight and earning money for charity will keep the new participants and our members working towards their weight loss goals.”
Katie Rhodes, fundraiser at Sue Ryder Care - Manorlands Hospice, added, "We are really pleased that the Rendezvous Hotel has chosen to support Sue Ryder Care - Manorlands Hospice. All the vital funds they raise will help us support people in the area who are living with life limiting illness and helping them through life’s challenges.”
The facilities at Rendezvous have enabled charity organisers to make thousands of pounds for their respective charities. One such charity is The Ribble Valley & White Rose Ladies which has raised £700,000 over the last 12 years for research specifically into children’s cancer for Cancer Research UK. The hotel also hosts a number of complimentary overnight stays and free meals which local schools, clubs and charities can auction or raffle as prizes.
Sue XXX, headteacher at Greatwood Community Primary and Nursery School, Skipton, said: “Over the years, we have used the facilities at Rendezvous to host a number of fundraising events. The hotel always provides an excellent, tailored service to meet our needs and has been very generous in its support of our campaigns by providing, on many occasions, complimentary overnight stays and ‘dinner for two’ as raffle prizes. The hotel is our first port of call for all our big fundraisers.”
The scheme is open to all current and any non-leisure club members and is running until May 1 2011, when the grand total raised will be presented to Manorlands Hospice.
Participants in the initiative do not have to be members of Rendezvous Leisure Club, however they will have full use of the facilities during off-peak times (Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm and all day Saturday and Sunday).
For further information about how you can join the initiative contact Georgina Ford on 01756 700100 or visit www.rendezvous-skipton.co.uk
