Excellent service from the welcome through to the breakfast staff in the morning. Room was clean, well decorated and quiet at night. Would definitely stay again!

Skipton Castle PDF Print E-mail
Skipton is the 'gateway' to the magnificent Yorkshire Dales for thousands of visitors from all over the world. The broad tree-lined High Street leads up to the church, behind which you see the impressive facade of the 900 year-old castle, and Skipton Woods.

The High Street is home to the famous market with its many varied and interesting stalls, and to numerous shops. Skipton has many independent specialist shops, but also has branches of many quality chains and two department stores.

Wander down the many alleyways or 'gunnels' to savour the town's history and character. Explore the side streets where you will find individual shops, cafes and restaurants. Visit the canal area with boat trips, marina. footpaths, and picnic areas.

Craven Court is an attractive Victorian style Shopping Centre, with entrances both off the High Street and off Otley Street

At the top of Skipton's main street stand the massive twin towers of Skipton Castle...

Over 900 years old, Skipton Castle is one of the most complete and best preserved medieval castles in England and is well worth a visit at any season of the year.

Visitors can explore every corner of this impressive history-rich castle, which withstood a three-year siege during the Civil War. View the Banqueting Hall, the Kitchen, the Bedchamber and Privy. Climb from the depths of the Dungeon to the top storey of the Watch Tower.

Imagine what life was like when Skipton Castle provided protection and security from invaders. Relax in the picnic area or in the new tea room or visit the shop for more information.

Even now more historic finds are being discovered. Recently an ancient well was uncovered, helping to explain how the castle garrison survived the siege of 1643-5.

Every visitor to the Castle is given a comprehensive Tour Sheet (available in 9 languages) with 40 drawings and descriptions of interesting features.
